GE HealthCare in talks to buy Sofie Biosciences for about $1bn

GE HealthCare (GEHC) is in talks over a possible deal worth about $1bn to acquire Sofie Biosciences, a developer of radioactive chemicals used in cancer imaging, according to people familiar with the matter.

An agreement could be announced as soon as next week, the report said. GE HealthCare declined to comment, while Sofie could not be reached outside regular business hours.

The acquisition would be GE HealthCare's second significant deal since it became an independent company as part of the three-way break-up of General Electric (GE), completed in 2024.

Buying Sofie would bolster GE HealthCare's pharmaceutical diagnostics division, which supplies the agents and chemicals used in medical scans, as the group seeks to expand its presence in the fast-growing radiopharmaceuticals market.
