What should I know about Teva?
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries is an Israeli pharmaceutical company, best known as one of the world's largest makers of generic medicines, which are lower-cost versions of drugs whose patents have expired. It also sells specialty medicines for conditions such as movement disorders, migraine and schizophrenia, and over-the-counter products. It has about 32,000 employees, according to market data. In the second quarter of 2026 it reported revenue of $4.1 billion, down 1% in US dollars, as growth in its branded medicines was offset by generics.
What are Teva's main drugs?
Teva's three key branded medicines are Austedo, for movement disorders, Ajovy, for migraine prevention, and Uzedy, a long-acting injection for schizophrenia. In the second quarter of 2026 they earned over $1 billion combined, up 43% in local currency terms: Austedo $696 million, Ajovy $244 million and Uzedy $77 million. Teva raised its 2026 forecast for all three, to a combined $3.7 billion. Global generics revenue fell 15% in local currency, mainly because of more competition for lenalidomide capsules in the US.
What is Teva currently developing?
Teva's pipeline includes duvakitug, an anti-TL1A antibody for bowel disease that it is developing with Sanofi, an olanzapine long-acting injection for which the European regulator has accepted an application, and ecopipam for Tourette syndrome, for which a US application has been submitted. It also expects its biosimilar pipeline, which covers lower-cost versions of biologic drugs, to reach $800 million in revenue in 2027. Teva's total debt fell to $16.6 billion from $16.8 billion, partly because of exchange rates.
Have there been any controversies involving Teva?
Teva's most significant controversy is the US opioid crisis. In July 2022 it agreed to a settlement worth up to $4.25 billion over 13 years with US states, paid partly in cash and partly in generic naloxone, an opioid-overdose reversal drug. States alleged it promoted fentanyl products to non-cancer patients, downplayed addiction risks and failed to meet suspicious-order monitoring requirements. Teva makes branded fentanyl products (Actiq and Fentora) for cancer pain, along with generic opioids including oxycodone.
Is Teva publicly traded, and how big is it?
Yes. Teva trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker TEVA, and its shares are also listed in Tel Aviv. Its market value was about $45.6 billion on 11 September 2026, with the shares at about $37. It reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $4.1 billion and now expects full-year 2026 revenue of $16.5 billion to $16.85 billion.
