CSL

What should I know about CSL?

CSL is an Australian biotechnology company, headquartered in Melbourne, that makes medicines from human blood plasma, influenza vaccines and treatments for kidney disease and iron deficiency. It describes itself as a global biotechnology company that develops and delivers biotherapies and vaccines. It operates through three divisions: CSL Behring (plasma-derived and recombinant therapies), CSL Seqirus (influenza vaccines) and CSL Vifor (iron and nephrology). It has a presence in more than 40 countries. In its 2026 financial year it reported revenue of US$15.8 billion, down 1%.

What are CSL's main drugs?

CSL's results are discussed mainly by division. Its largest business is CSL Behring, which has been strongest in immunoglobulin products made from donated plasma. CSL expects mid-single-digit revenue growth at CSL Behring and low single-digit growth at CSL Seqirus, which sells flu vaccines, amid softer US immunisation rates. CSL Vifor is forecast to decline because of generic competition and regulatory changes. CSL's gene therapy Hemgenix, for haemophilia B, is also mentioned among the factors affecting revenue.

What is CSL currently developing?

CSL has described its 2026 financial year as a "reset year", with restructuring costs of US$799 million, cost savings of about US$176 million and the integration of its Behring and Vifor operations. It expects its underlying net profit to grow about 5% in 2027 and has announced an extra A$1 billion share buyback. In early October 2026 it also announced a major partnership for rare disease drug development, which analysts linked to its nephrology strategy.

Is CSL publicly traded, and how big is it?

Yes. CSL is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange under the ticker CSL. Its market value was about A$85.8 billion on 6 October 2026, after a volatile year in which the shares lost about half of their value over the 12 months to August. For its 2026 financial year it reported revenue of US$15.8 billion and underlying net profit after tax (NPATA) of US$3.1 billion, down 2%. Its reported net loss reflected one-off impairments.
